Currawongs Calling
Celebrating Ros Bandt: A Concert of Music and Environmental Advocacy
On Sunday 20th September, the Recorder Co-op presented Currawongs at La Mama Courthouse in Carlton, a concert celebrating the music of Australian composer Ros Bandt and her remarkable 50-year career of environmental advocacy.

A Work Finally Brought to Life
Currawongs was originally written in 2021 and composed especially for our quartet by Ros. It was such a joy to finally bring it to life, and we were honoured to be joined by the wonderful Alana Blackburn and Jim Atkins for this special performance.
This year also marks 10 years since our quartet first formed, and it felt fitting to celebrate this milestone alongside Ros's own celebration of her compositional work. The afternoon was a beautiful confluence of music, memory, and meaning.

Thank You
A big thank you to everyone who joined us – it meant the world to share this music with you. Thank you also to Alana Blackburn and Jim Atkins for being part of this celebration, and to La Mama Theatre for hosting us so warmly.
With Gratitude to Our Photographers & La Mama Theatre
Thank you to Mark Pedersen and Ruiqi Fu for capturing the day so beautifully. And to La Mama Theatre for hosting us.
About Ros Bandt
Ros Bandt is one of Australia's most distinctive voices in contemporary music, with a career spanning more than five decades. Her work blends ancient instruments with field recordings, audiovisuals, and immersive sound design – always with a focus on the more-than-human world and a plea for care of water, wildlife, and country.
We are deeply grateful to have had the opportunity to perform her music and to celebrate her extraordinary contribution to Australian music.
