With just under 30 particpants (aged 5-17) the halls of the old Melbourne conservatorium were filled with the sounds of laughter and recorder playing for the weekend MRA workshop.
We had four levels - preschool, two intermediate groups and an advanced group. Our tutors rotated between the groups, with lessons on small ensemble skills and improvisation. We had sessions show-casing the Recorder Co-op's collection of Renaissance recorders, including the 'Big Bass' recorder (over 2 metres tall!) to the tinest little recorders. Those in the intermediate group all got a chance to learn to play bass recorders with Rachel Snedden.
Every group performed on the final day one, with small ensemble pieces and their improvisations, some were based on a musical stories or some jazzy chords. We look forward to bringing another MRA workshop to you in July 2020.
